Demo · F5

A website for a freelance writer, built so a stranger writes to her.

One page, her subject, a sample to read and one address.

A commissioner decides in the time it takes to read a headline and one paragraph. The first screen states her subject in one line. One scroll down, a sample paragraph lets a stranger judge the writing.

Buy this one and the same page is drawn for your subject, your pieces and your name.

Ines Larch is a writer we invented so there was something real to design for. Her essays and the bodies that commissioned them are invented, and her email address belongs to a reserved domain, so it reaches nobody.

Judgement

What this build demonstrates

  • The subject gives the style its reason

A classical engraving earns its place only when the writing is about buildings, so it carries one: a market hall drawn in hairlines and captioned like a plate in a book. The engraving shows what she writes about.

  • The proof is who each piece was written for

Every title gives its form, length and the kind of body that commissioned it. Yours would name the real publications and clients.

  • One sample, set to be read

A paragraph on a line about 60 characters wide, with footnotes under it at a size a phone can read. A stranger judges a writer by a paragraph, so the page spends its space on one.

  • One way in, with the address printed

The button opens an email, and the address is also written out for people whose mail lives in a browser. One address, one message from one stranger.

Fit

The kind of person it suits

Someone whose work is the reason people get in touch, and who wants one address on the page.

  • Freelance writers and journalists
  • Independent researchers and historians
  • Consultants and advisers who write for a living
  • Translators, editors and indexers

A poor fit for someone with hundreds of pieces to browse, or a newsletter to run. One page runs out of room there, and we would say so and point you at Multi-page.
